Warhammer RPG Mounts

So in continuing to work on the settlement builder for WFRPG in preparation for the game I will be running I realized WFRP has no rules for mounts or mounted combat...or at least they didn't a short time ago.  Since making this realization and starting a small set of game mechanics for mounts Fantasy Flight has released a new warfare focused expansion with mount rules.  I think mine look to be a bit more wide ranging including other mounts and all aside from warhorses, but I'm betting theirs are  better integrated with more fiddly bits and special counters.  It looks like they introduced a new horse specific profession that treats its horse much like the rat catcher's dog, which seems fine if you want horse ownership to be a big thing but what if you just want your players to buy and ride horses?  I really should wait to judge until I have actually read the rules and not just rely on previews.  Also the prices are outright guesses.

Horses, donkeys, griffons, and stranger creatures are used as mounts in the Warhammer universe.  Each such mount provides some special advantage to the riders, from fortune dice to combat roles to increased maneuvers for movement.

  1. And now, we must arrange for the dwarf to make a donkey-mounted cavalry charge.

  2. @Greg: Make sure he fights slingers, so he can get stoned off his ass.

@Lee: I like what you've done with these rules, and I'd be interested to see additional abilities that well-trained riders can use while mounted. My two notes: don't forget to add the "unless using a spear, lance, or halberd" clause to the Horse description. Secondly, should the griffon have a setup in which the rider makes ranged attacks while the griffon is in flight (granting, that is, complete immunity to melee attacks during that time)? Okay, a third thing - would you have any interest in making gunfire cause animals more consternation than bows, possibly in the form of a challenge die to the next Ride check?

Having said those things, I think this looks solid in any case, and I wish I were playing WHFRP with y'all. =)

  3. Had I the means I would make a whole set of cards for mounted combat, but since Fantasy Flight is coming out with their own mount rules and I'm no good with photoshop I figure I'll see what they come up with before investing too much effort.

The griffon flying aspect is hard to somewhat quantify in WFRP as there is no concept of movement rates or types. So I'd probably do what you suggested and have some cards for griffon attacks have a recharge time, during which they are immune to melee attacks (and in turn cannot make melee attacks).
